Bringing Clarity to Charity: How Philanthrify Uses Blockchain to Rebuild Trust in Global Giving

Charitable giving runs on trust, yet, in today’s nonprofit landscape, that trust is fragile. According to the 2023 Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Report, over half of the UK public say they lack confidence in charities, and nearly 5 million fewer people are donating compared to a decade ago. The reason is simple: donors often do not see the impact of their contributions.

Imagine supporting a clean water project and, within days, watching the well being built, seeing the local community benefit, and receiving updates that confirm the funds reached the right place. This is the kind of experience Philanthrify is creating, where every donation has a clear, visible, and verifiable story.

Founded by charity sector veteran Tomos Rees, Philanthrify is a donation marketplace built to make that vision a reality. With 17 years in the nonprofit industry, Tomos has seen the frustration donors feel when they give in good faith but are left in the dark. For small and mid-sized NGOs especially, this trust gap can mean the difference between growth and closure.

Philanthrify’s mission is clear: to increase global charitable donations by up to 50% through transparency, real-time reporting, and stronger donor engagement.

From Problem to Proof

The Philanthrify journey began with research into donor behaviour, transparency tools, and the potential of blockchain to transform charitable giving. Early pilots using basic impact reporting saw donations rise by 48% when transparency improved.

The feedback was consistent. Donors wanted to track the journey of their funds in real time. Charities needed simple, secure tools to report impact without adding to their administrative burden.

The team built an early Web2-facing version of the platform and secured a $350,000 UK Government grant to expand development. Interest quickly followed, with six charities and partnership discussions with three major foundations, including the Nick Maughan Foundation, which gave more than £100 million to charity.

How It Works and the Role of MultiversX

Philanthrify blends blockchain-powered transparency with AI-driven donor engagement to create a more connected giving experience. Every donation is recorded on an immutable ledger, allowing it to be traced from the moment it leaves the donor’s hands to the moment it creates impact. Donors receive real-time updates that show exactly where their contributions are being used, along with personalised AI-generated stories that bring the results to life.

For charities, the platform offers advanced tools allowing them to Manage, Monitor and Report on the real-time impact their projects have, reducing administrative effort while validating accuracy. The result is a system where every stage of the giving process is visible, verifiable, and deeply engaging for all involved.

Delivering this kind of transparency on a global scale requires infrastructure that is fast, secure, and cost-efficient. This is where MultiversX plays a critical role. Its blockchain provides the high throughput needed to handle large volumes of micro-donations, while keeping transaction costs low so more funds reach the intended causes. The decentralised architecture ensures that every record is secure and tamper-proof, giving donors confidence in what they see. Smart Contract capabilities enable automated fund allocation, milestone-based releases, and seamless compliance tracking.

Ecosystem Support: Growth Games

Philanthrify is also part of the MultiversX Growth Games, an initiative that provides funding, technical resources, and mentorship to high-impact projects. This support helps accelerate development, broaden adoption, and ensure that blockchain-powered transparency reaches as many charities as possible.

Looking Ahead

With early adoption already underway, strong institutional interest, and a growing waitlist of users, Philanthrify is ready to scale. By embedding MultiversX’s secure, high-performance blockchain infrastructure at its core, the platform is turning the idea of transparent, accountable giving into a reality for communities around the world.
