Build Wars: Shaping the Next Application Layer on MultiversX

From Technical Capability to Onchain Experience

Every major network upgrade introduces new technical capabilities, but the long term impact of those capabilities depends on how builders choose to use them. Performance improvements, higher throughput, and lower latency create potential, yet that potential only becomes visible once applications begin to form around it. As Supernova approaches, the MultiversX ecosystem enters a phase in which builders play a decisive role in translating infrastructure advances into real onchain experiences.

Build Wars emerges as the builder-focused chapter of Battle of Nodes New Dawn. Its purpose is to provide a dedicated environment for builders to design, test, and refine applications that align with the upcoming network upgrade. Rather than serving as a standalone event, Build Wars functions as an early construction phase for the ecosystem, where ideas mature into projects that can scale alongside Supernova.

A New Wave of Applications

The projects created during Build Wars influence how the MultiversX network evolves after the upgrade goes live. Builders will define interaction patterns, establish new technical references, and explore use cases that later developers can build upon. In this way, Build Wars contributes directly to shaping how the network is experienced by both developers and users.

Projects developed during Build Wars will span across DeFi, gaming, and infrastructure & tools, reflecting the core areas of growth within the ecosystem. In DeFi, builders could explore systems that move beyond static logic toward adaptive, agent-driven behavior capable of responding to onchain conditions in real time. Gaming projects could focus on interactive mechanics and progression systems that benefit from fast finality and responsive state updates, opening space for new forms of onchain interaction. Infrastructure and tooling projects could strengthen the underlying layers that support every application, improving reliability, automation, and developer experience across the network.

Building Onchain Applications with AI at the Core

Artificial intelligence (AI) plays a central role across these efforts. Builders can integrate AI into financial systems, user interfaces, developer tools, and game mechanics in ways that enhance functionality and improve usability. The performance characteristics introduced by Supernova will allow these AI-driven approaches to operate efficiently onchain, and Build Wars offers a structured context in which builders can experiment with them responsibly and creatively.

Within Build Wars, builders are encouraged to explore AI as a native part of the application stack, with a clear focus on automated AI agents that operate onchain. This includes decision engines connected to modern AI models, autonomous agents capable of executing actions at Supernova speeds, and tooling that allows these agents to interact directly with DeFi protocols, games, and other onchain systems across MultiversX. The goal is to develop open, reusable components that enable agent driven applications and can compound into a shared application layer as the ecosystem evolves.

From Hackathon to Ongoing Momentum

To support this goal, Build Wars features a prize pool of $50,000+, including rewards in EGLD, ecosystem tokens, and credits for cloud services, infrastructure, and security audits. These resources aim to help promising projects continue development beyond the hackathon period and progress toward production readiness.

The Build Wars hackathon runs from December 16 to January 13, with winning submissions announced in January. While the event has a defined timeline, its influence extends beyond those dates through the applications and tools that remain active and evolve after the competition concludes.

As the year comes to a close, Build Wars represents a transition for the MultiversX ecosystem. Supernova provides the technical foundation for the next phase of network growth, while builders determine how that foundation supports real world use. Through Build Wars, the ecosystem begins turning new capabilities into concrete applications that shape what MultiversX becomes next.

It is time to build different.
