Release: Spica Patch 4 - v1.8.12
We're rolling out a new upgrade for mainnet validator nodes. With this patch release, the 'Protocol sustainability rewards' address, currently a standard single-key wallet, is being migrated to a newly created multisig for greater security and control distribution. Since the destination address is configurable, the migration requires a network upgrade.
The multisig address is the following erd1qqqqqqqqqqqqqpgqfgn5rprsz2hz2rcdmgq7zcz7kzz0g8lnpfzqntl2g3, and will be labeled under the same tag on the explorer. The protocol sustainability address receives 10% of the network’s total generated rewards to fund the long-term development, maintenance, and advocacy of the MultiversX protocol.
Multisigs wallets, short for multi-signature, extend the conditions for transfer approval and thus offer superior management of treasuries.
Activation Epoch
The activation epoch for the improvements is set to 1699, which should happen on Tuesday, March 25th ~16:30 UTC.
Action Required
It is mandatory for all nodes to be updated to version v1.8.12.0-patch4 to ensure continued stability and performance of the network and to avoid the risk of having any validator nodes jailed.
Governance
Given the nature of the release → Maintenance Upgrade, there is no need for a governance call. This release is a follow up to the Spica upgrade, which passed community voting with 98.65% YES in August this year.
